Zipp 202 NSW Carbon Clincher Rear Wheel

Staying efficient and responsive in the mountains and providing reliable braking on the descents, the Zipp 202 NSW Carbon Clincher Rear Wheel has been lauded as the go-to rear wheel for riders who yearn for day-in, day-out performance. At just 760g, you’ll be riding faster and harder up hard-fought gradients than ever before, all whilst the Cognition hub is incredibly fast engaging, allowing you to lay down the power at a moments notice.

Nest Speed Weaponry (NSW) is the seal that guarantees these wheels contain the most advanced development technology that Zipp has at their fingertips. This comprises over forty concept studies using CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) post-processing software and multiple wind-tunnel trips, including the Aerodynamic Bike Testing Facility at the ARC Wind Tunnel, a mind-boggling amount of research and testing that has truly delivered one of the best wheels ever.

One way Zipp has achieved this is the Cognition hubset with Axial Clutch Technology. Ingeniously this disengages the ratchet when freewheeling so that drag is reduced. Additionally, a star-flanged straight-pull hubshell design for the rear hub moves the load placed on the hub flange away from the bearings. The bearings in the front hub will also roll faster and quieter thanks to the scalloped edge hubshell design that ensures consistent bearing bore diameter even when high radial spoke tension is applied.

One of Zipp's pioneering technologies of late has been the dimpling of their rims for improved aerodynamics. As you would expect, this has been developed even further here with the ABLC SawTooth design. A new design, it consists of 12 nodes that are precisely clocked to start aerodynamic shearing at a much higher rate than regular flat rims. This acts in a similar manner to the dimples on a golf ball to create tiny vortices that act to displace air and allow the wheel to pass through with less drag.

Standard graphics would not do this wheel justice, so Zipp has developed ImPress graphics so they can directly apply their graphics onto the wheel, thus enabling the dimples to do their work all the way around the rim.
