##Specialized S-Works Epic Mountain Bike 2022 Specialized’s range-topping S-Works Epic Mountain Bike has been synonymous with cross-country speed for nearly two decades, loved by XC World Cup riders and amateur racers alike for its low weight, great handling and the unique Brain shock platform. Revised geometry sees slacker angles, a lower bottom bracket and longer reach to offer more confident handling on technical terrain, reflecting the increasingly aggressive nature of World Cup XC courses, which also makes it even better for fast trail riding than ever before. The Brain decides whether a potential suspension activation is caused by a bump, in which case the system opens up to absorb the shock, or rider input, in which case it stays closed to maintain maximum pedalling efficiency. 100mm of suspension front and rear keeps the wheels glued to the ground for traction, grip and control, with the Brain rear shock matched by the RockShox SID SL ULTIMATE Brain fork, and both offer improved adjustability for fine-tuning to suit course or rider. The FACT 12m carbon frame includes a carbon shock linkage to shave 100 grams off compared with the other Epics, and the rear triangle is 15% stiffer than the previous iteration to better transfer power. SRAM’s flagship XX1 Eagle AXS drivetrain is both electronic and fully wireless, giving access to the ratios on the 12-speed cassette with just a light press of a button. The system can be configured to personal preference using the AXS smartphone app which also provides information about battery life and usage. Keeping all the inevitable speed under control is SRAM’s Level Ultimate hydraulic disc brakes. The carbon Roval Control SL 29” wheelset weighs just 1,240 grams (claimed), so can be accelerated phenomenally quickly and also has very little turning inertia so that the handling on tight, twisty trails is sublime. Both the wheels and the 2.3” Specialized Fast Track tyres are tubeless-ready so conversion is a simple matter. A carbon seatpost and handlebar add comfort and low weight whilst even the bolts on the stem are titanium to help with the gram count.
