The incredibly fast frame is formed with a Kammtail Virtual Foil (KVF) design that is the most aerodynamic tube shape ever designed for a bicycle. For the 2016 model, Trek have made KVF even more aerodynamic by reducing the frontal area of the bike and reducing drag at all yaw angles.

Drag reduction has also been optimised in the full-foil fork. The 6:1 shape of the fork was the fastest in real-world testing with optimised yaw angles that help to reduce turbulence. Both the front and rear brakes are shielded from the wind by being hidden behind the fork and under the chainstay, while the inclusion of the Speed Fin under the bottom bracket boosts rear-wheel braking and cheats the wind as an aero rear-wheel fairing.

By integrating the handlebars, the Trek Speed Concept 9 Series Triathlon Frameset 2016 is able to cut down on weight while also adding stability. The full foil profile of the bars acts to dramatically reduce their drag profile and diminish the turbulence left in their wake.
