Cervelo Caledonia-5 Ultegra Di2 Disc Road Bike 2022
Offering real-world speed, comfort and convenience, Cervelo’s Caledonia-5 Ultegra Di2 Disc Road Bike can mix it up on the Sunday chaingang, do duty as an all-weather winter machine and even venture onto unsurfaced roads.
Its high degree of versatility is due in the main to its carbon frameset that manages to retain a fast, racy character whilst still offering a little more comfort and stability than many road bikes. Compliance in the upper frame and seatpost combines with an oversized bottom bracket area for better power transfer whilst keeping the weight down to under 1,000 grams.
Clearance for tyres up to 34mm in width gives plenty of scope for increasing the comfort levels further to cope with poorly surfaced roads or even the odd excursion onto unsurfaced trails and hidden mounts for full mudguards make the bike a practical year-round option without spoiling the aesthetics.
Now semi-wireless, Shimano’s latest Ultegra Di2 groupset features a 12-speed drivetrain with the derailleurs connected to a single battery, but gear changes are conveyed wirelessly to them from the shifters. This keeps the front end neater and enables more native connectivity to bike computers and apps.
The Reserve 40/44mm wheels run on reliable DT Swiss 370 hubs and are tubeless-ready, as are the 28c Vittoria Rubino Pro TLR tyres so that conversion is easy. A Cervelo carbon handlebar and seatpost are nice finishing touches that reduce weight and provide protection against vibrations from the road surface.
