The love for oversized wheels has come to fruition as of late and Specialized has been one of the biggest influencers in this market than any other bike manufacturer due to their love of innovation. Well, the Specialized Stumpjumper FSR Comp 6Fattie 2017 pays testament to this, with a range of specifically chosen components that compliment the larger 650b x 3.0” tyres.

The super-lightweight frame constructed from Specialized’s M5 alloy Trail Chassis with a Stumpjumper FSR specific rear end offers a beautiful blend of snappy, responsive steering and a stiff rear end that can soak up any big hits you set your eyes on. Internal cabling routing enhances the durability, protecting your components/cables from damage by routing them through the frame, and the 12x148mm dropouts enhance the stiffness of the hubs, too.

A RockShox Revelation RL 29/27.5+ front fork with 150mm of travel soaks up any rocks, roots and features in your path, whilst the 15mm Maxle Lite thru-axle allows you to take bigger hits without any problems. The RockShox Monarch RT further increases your descending ability by keeping the rear end compliant and on track thanks to a rebound and 2-position compression adjustment.

SRAM’s Guide R hydraulic disc brakes are known as some of the most powerful and consistent brakes on the mountain bike market and provide great heat modulation for long, enduring downhill sections. For this reason, Specialized have incorporated them with 160/180/200mm rotors.

Where Specialized have really injected their innovation into this bike is obviously the 6Fattie tyres. The wider version of the original Specialized Purgatory, which were already known for their immense grip and puncture protection, have been developed and increased to 650b x 3.0”. This further enhances grip and control in slippery, rooty areas, giving a more enjoyable ride.

SRAM’s GX rear derailleur offers a wide range of 11-gears that give both enough spin to climb technical gradients and more than adequate amounts of power to surge along the flats.

Finished with a Specialized Command Post IRcc dropper post, and you can chop and change your position on the bike at the press of a button. So, when you’re climbing and you need greater efficiency, put yourself into the highest position on the seatpost, and when you’re descending and need to put yourself in the most agile position, switch to the lowest.
