Cleverly combining an advanced carbon frame with Future Shock 2.0 fork, lightweight motor and wide-range 1x drivetrain, Specialized’s Turbo Creo SL Expert Electric Road Bike makes light work of hills, long rides and mixed road surfaces.

The FACT 11r carbon frame is both stiff and light, despite housing the fully integrated down tube battery and having fittings for mudguards. Comfort is increased and fatigue decreased by the inclusion of Specialized’s Future Shock 2.0 fork, which has 20mm of suspension at the top of the steerer to help iron out poorly surfaced roads. A top cap dial controls the amount of compression, so it can be adjusted on the fly depending on the situation.

By mixing an Ultegra Di2 electronic 11-speed drivetrain with a mountain bike XT rear derailleur, gear range has been maintained despite the simplified 1x system, ensuring that whether powering uphill or flying back down, the right ratio is just a light flick of the lever away. Similarly impressive are the Shimano Ultegra hydraulic disc brakes, which provide tireless power and control in any weather conditions. Shod with 30c Specialized Turbo Pro tyres, the carbon Roval C 38 Disc wheels are quick, comfortable and smooth, although if conditions require it, there is room in the frame for even bigger rubber.

By using a smaller battery and motor than found on many e-bikes, the Turbo Creo SL Expert is light and handles superbly, well able to take advantage of the high-speed stability the long and low geometry provides. However, despite its size, there is still 240W of assistance available from the motor and up to 80 miles of range on tap from the battery, making range anxiety and uphill struggles things of the past. There is even a Specialized Mission Control app that can be connected to the bike which can monitor batter usage and power, ride metrics and record activities.
