Matt Stephens joins former European Road Champion Matteo Trentin in Monaco for an episode of the Sigma Sports Café Ride with a difference.

A total washout with unseasonably cold temperatures were not in the running order, and with a packed racing calendar on the horizon (for Matteo) the pair thought it best to defer their ride, and head straight to the café for an in depth chat about the culture at Tudor Pro Cycling Team, rider safety, and the merits of bikes made out of cheese.

The next day brought sunshine, and Matteo invited Matt to join him on his training ride. But can the former three times Merseyside divs champion keep up with one of the fastest men in the pro peloton? And if so, will he even be able to hold a conversation?

Matteo Trentin Cafe Ride Route

The Route

A pro rider who has called Monaco and the Côte d'Azur his home for over a decade, we were honoured to join Matteo on one of his favourite loops, into the hills north of the principality and Nice. Taking on the beautiful coast road out of Monaco, Matteo and Matt traversed the seaside towns of Beaulieu-sur-Mer and Villefranche-sur-Mer before heading inland to tackle the famous Col d'Eze. A short but punchy and picturesque route, follow the link below to take a closer look and ride it for yourself.

The Kit

It was not just the plethora of supercars, yachts and picture postcard vistas turning heads on the French Riveria. Our very own Matt Stephens also batted a few eyelids in his chic yet performance focused attire, which consisted of a range of ASSOS' latest garments, including the Equipe R S11 jersey and bib short ensemble, as well as Oakley Velokato sunglasses and an ARO5 helmet.
