I’m in two minds on speed play cleats. On the one hand, when they are working well, they are easy to engage and release. Also I am pretty sure that my knees are much less troublesome on long rides after using them. There are two big downsides though to me. Firstly, the cleats just do not last that long and certainly less than other cleats I’ve used. In addition, if you need go off road eg to attend a call of nature, the cleats can easily get bunged up with dirt, then stop operating as well. So there are pros and cons.

The Wahoo Speedplay Standard Tension Pedal Cleats are strong, reliable and durable replacements for use with the brand’s pedal range. The dimpled, low-profile design works in unison with the pedal to create a streamlined silhouette, and the rubberised surface gives grip when walking. Three-axis adjustability allows the fore-aft, left-right and rotational positions to be independently altered, and 0-15° of float is offered, allowing the rider to fine tune their riding position.
The standard tension of the cleat spring allows for a solid and super-efficient connection to the pedals but ensures that it is still easy to unclip.

I am about to order Sidi cycle shoes that are supposed to have Free cleats but the cleats do not seem to be free ? They are speedplay pedals and according to your site I am supposed to have the cleats of my choice free. Can you assist?
Hi there, You're fine with standard 3-bolt Sidi shoes. The Speedplay cleat set includes the 3-bolt to 4-bolt adapter plate, so the shoe bolts to the adapter and the cleat mounts on top. Nothing extra to buy, unless your Sidis have Speedplay's own 4-bolt drilling, which skips the adapter. Many thanks
