The Silca Ultimate Chain Wax System, when utilised with Silca’s own Secret Chain Blend Hot Wax and StripChip Hot Melt Chain Degreaser, enables you to degrease and wax a new bike chain with minimal effort and no preparatory steps.
It comprises a Chain Coupler attached to a Chain Hanging Stand, along with a Wax Melter. The Wax Melter is placed within the stand and filled with 300g of Secret Chain Blend Hot Wax, leaving a 20mm gap at the top of the pot.
Increase the temperature beyond its automatic 75°C to 125°C. Once the wax begins to melt, add one piece of StripChip on top of the wax.
Allow the wax and Hot Melt Chain Degreaser to fully liquefy, ensuring the StripChip is no longer visible. Then, use a cable coupler to immerse your chain into the mixture, passing it through five to six links of the chain, spaced apart to allow sufficient coverage. Gently agitate it for 30 seconds, taking care not to splatter wax outside the Wax Melter, then leave it for 10 minutes.
Afterward, agitate the chain for another 30 seconds, then reduce the machine's temperature back to 75°C. Once it reaches this temperature, which should take approximately 10 minutes, it's safe to use the cable coupler to remove the chain and hang it on a waxing stand to dry, before switching off the Wax Melter. Allow it to cool for 10-15 minutes before handling or installing it on your bike.
Please note, it's advisable to articulate each link before installation to break down the wax, and it may take 10-20 minutes of pedalling to properly break in the new chain.
If your chain features a quick link, it is unsuitable for immersion in Hot Melt Wax. Instead, apply Silca Super Secret Wax Lube Chain Coating after installing the newly waxed chain. Ensure several hours of drying time before use after application on the rollers and pins.

Everything that you need is there. However, the range of temperatures is limited at the lower end, presumably to route you toward using Silca's own wax. I'd prefer that I could set the lower temperature to 60 celsius that a different wax needs but I am limited to 75. Apart from that, it is great. My workaround is to swich it off and then switch it on for a few seconds periodically so that it tells me the temp. When it hits 60 I can remove my chain.
Having waxed my chains for the last two years using the "boil in the bag" secret wax method I thought it was time for a better method, but was not happy with using a crockpot. So hence the purchase of the Silca system. The first observation was its relatively small size thus it uses very little wax to get the job done. The wax quickly melts and settles at the temperature selected on the display. Once the chain has been waxed and hung up to cooldown I was surprised by how little excess wax was left within the plates of the chain, something that was a problem using the old boil in the bag method. Why only four stars, the method to join the rear assembly by screwing into relatively thin plate means there's not much thread to hold the assembly together so might have preferred the nut and bolt method. Overall though I'm very pleased with the purchase even though it will only be used a couple of times a year.

Hi there, No, it's set up for chains rather than cassettes. The system is a wax melter with a chain coupler and hanging stand, so it strips and waxes the chain in one go, but it isn't designed to clean a cassette or the wider drivetrain. For those you'd use a separate degreaser and a cassette brush. Many thanks Joe W
