Description
Stop like you have never stopped before with the new Specialized S-Works Tarmac Disc Module Frameset 2015. So it is not called an SL5 but this is definitely a major step up from the SL4. Using exceptionally responsive modulating disc brakes for responsive, assured and confident braking, whatever the weather conditions. With a small weight penalty, this is one serious high performance frameset, inspiring confidence and allowing you to push it to your limits.
Rider-First Engineered™, this frame has been tuned to perfection with real time, on the road data collection and close collaboration with McLaren Formula 1 to produce the best cornering, sprinting and climbing high performance frameset ever to wear the Specialized badge.
So what else is new? Well Specialized, for the first time, have developed a frameset, which in each of the six sizes, provides unparalleled levels of performance. Specialized found the SL4, in smaller sizes when tested, proved too responsive to steering inputs, making it twitchy. When testing larger frame sizes this proved the opposite. The engineers recognised they needed to address this issue and that ride characteristics and requirements differ depending on the frameset size. Using different manufacturing techniques they have been able to create a frameset that performs exceptionally in any size. So whether you are riding a 49 centimetre or 61 centimetre size, the S-Works Tarmac Disc Module Frameset 2015 provides sublime, precise and assured handling. This new process is called size optimisation, where two rather than one measurement is taken to achieve the optimum ride.
Other new additions include an integrated seat collar, which improves vertical stiffness and road dampening whilst adding to the frameset's organic and fast appearance.
Upfront and a new tapered headtube allows for direct, pin-sharp steering. This has been paired with a lower bearing sized headset, which further improves handling and steering response. At the rear, the seatstays have been specifically designed, to the corresponding size, to add stiffness and enhance power delivery.
If this was not enough of a desirable package, the addition of Roval Rapide CLX 40 SCS Disc Wheels, with CeramicSpeed ceramic bearings, provides a stiff, lightweight and durable finishing touch.
FACT 11r carbon has been used in the frame construction to make the frameset stiffer than it’s predecessor. This extra rigidity is provides improved, direct power transfer, a better handling and sharper ride. FACT monocoque technology has also been used in chainstays. Power transfer has been refined with a one-piece FACT seamless bottom bracket design, stiffer than ever before. All these features give the rider a good balance between a comfortable and aggressive ride.
Do not just take our word for it though. Grand Tour winner's Vincenzo Nibali and Alberto Contador have been putting the new S-Works Tarmac Frameset through it's paces and cannot praise it highly enough. The defending Giro d'Italia champion, Nibali when comparing it to it's predecessor described it as, "Smoother and easier to handle, especially when changing speed and overall has a better balance of stiffness and stability. It feels like the positive aspects of the SL4, responsiveness and stiffness, are enhanced."
