New for 2015 the 808 has used Firecrest® rim technology to offer a wider, more rugged rim, resulting in an aerodynamically enhanced wheel. Wider making the wheel more stable yet not affecting Zipp’s renowned smooth as butter rolling resistance. It also makes for a more comfortable yet also rigid ride.

A wider rim also means the tyre sits better, making for better cornering efficiency.

Firecrest® construction and shape improves the wheel’s ride in crosswinds as it moves the pressure on the wheel, away from the front, to the steering axis, giving the 82 millimetre rim the stability of a box rim but still holding all the superior aerodynamic traits you expect from a race ready wheel.

With this wider rim it is advisable you check the wheel fits your frame before you buy. A 24.73 millimetre wide braking surface, improves braking performance, key when the weather turns nasty and you need pin point precision feedback in the wet.

Exposed nipples allow for easy maintenance, yet are constructed within the aero profile of the rim to provide unparalleled aerodynamic efficiency. Heat resin is applied to all Zipp Carbon clincher rims for added reliability and durability.

Some major performance and aesthetic changes have been made for 2015. First up is the extensively developed 88 hub. Impressively torsionally and laterally stiff giving a direct ride, not wasting power delivery.

Next up is the radial lacing geometry, applied to both sides of the front wheel, improving ride quality and stiffness. 18 spokes used in this radial pattern provides a reliable and solid ride.

Zipp have kindly produced a clincher version of this wheel, giving aerodynamic gains, similar to that of the tubular version but with a more convenience in regard to tyres.

At 840 grams, this front wheel is a sensible weight and more than competent of being used for fast, flat, windy criterium races, timetrials or triathlons and Ironman events.
