Bike Cable Cutters & Pliers

Cut clean. Build better. A quality cable cutter is one of the most underrated tools in any cycling workshop. Whether you're shortening brake housing, trimming derailleur inner wire or building a complete bike from scratch, using the right cutter makes the difference between a clean, burr-free end that seats perfectly. and a frayed, crushed end that causes cable friction and skews indexed shifting. Standard hardware wire cutters won't do. Bike cable cutters are purpose-designed with hardened cutting edges to shear cleanly through stainless inner wire and the coiled or compressionless outer housing used on road, gravel and triathlon bikes.

What to look for in a bike cable cutter

Cutting capacity Look for a cutter rated for both inner wire (typically 1.1–1.6mm stainless) and outer housing up to 5mm (brake) or 4mm (derailleur). Some premium models handle Gore-Tex-lined and compressionless housing cleanly, important if you're working with SRAM eTap routing cables or high-end friction-free setups.

Blade quality Hardened steel or carbide-edged blades hold their edge significantly longer and produce cleaner cuts with less hand pressure. On a tool you'll use repeatedly, blade longevity matters.

Return spring and handle ergonomics A smooth return spring and comfortable grip makes a real difference if you're batching cable jobs or working on a full build. Look for handles with good leverage, cable housing requires more force than inner wire.

Cable end caps Many cutters include a built-in hole for crimping cable end caps. Useful to have in a single tool.
