The BMC Teammachine SLR01 THREE Disc Road Bike is a fast, lightweight choice that pairs a state-of-the-art carbon frame with a 12-speed electronic groupset and other high-end components that make for a fantastic ride experience.

The Tuned Compliance Concept Race offers a balanced carbon layup that is slightly more compliant than the TCC Speed frames, and has been developed for long days and big mountains such as might be encountered on a Grand Tour stage.

There are plenty of aerodynamic touches too, so the bike is still plenty quick enough at speed, with the Accelerated Composites Evolution Technology+ (ACE+) now also taking drag into account along with stiffness, weight and compliance. Aerocore bottle cages that integrate the cage and bottle into the airflow over the downtube, stealth cable routing, aero fork blades and a D-shaped seat tube all further smooth the passage of air over the bike. Efficient power transfer comes courtesy of the oversized bottom bracket and carbon layup, creating a hugely stiff and effective way of getting all pedal pressure to the rear axle.

A one-piece full carbon cockpit reduces drag and allows the stiffness and compliance to be precisely balanced to achieve an accurate, confidence-inspiring set-up that provides excellent control whilst still being comfortable across a variety of road surfaces. The lightweight carbon seatpost is D-shaped to ensure better absorption of vibrations and small bumps, leading to less muscle fatigue and tiredness.

At 50mm deep, the DT Swiss ARC 1650 carbon wheels are in the rim sweet spot between low weight and aerodynamic performance, so these wheels will happily race up the longest climbs whilst still being up to speed on flat roads. The rims are tubeless-ready, so can be used at lower pressures without inner tubes, thus reducing rolling resistance, decreasing the potential for punctures and increasing grip as well as giving a nice, supple ride feel. DT Swiss’ hub internals are well known for their reliability, low maintenance and smooth running.

With a 12-speed cassette and electronic shifting, Shimano’s Ultegra Di2 groupset provides a superlative performance that makes finding the right gear and maintaining the optimum cadence easier than ever. Shifting is fast and accurate, no matter the pressure on the pedals and the system can be linked to a smartphone or GPS device by Bluetooth to customise some shifting functions and to access extra data. Braking from the Ultegra hydraulic disc is equally as impressive, with Servo Wave technology from the mountain bike range improving power and control whilst also increasing pad clearance.
