As someone who has really struggled with cold toes I've searched high and low to find a pair of overshoes that offer much greater warmth than 'standard' overshoes. I tried other 'extreme' protection overshoes made from Neoprene and didn't find any improvement over my normal overshoes which I find ok for autumn / spring use. So this year I gave the Castelli's a go. First impressions were good. The outer layer of Gore-Tex Infinium fabric is windproof and sheds light rain or road spray well. I've not worn them in heavy rain so can't say how they perform then. The inner fleece fabric is substantial without being too bulky. Putting the overshoes on is simple enough (I went for the size XL which are snug without being overly tight on my Sidi size 44 wide fit shoes). They certainly are the warmest overshoes I've tried although how warm they will keep your feet will depend upon individual physiology. I still need to wear a pair of heated insoles on rides over 30km if the temperature is below 9 or 10 degrees but like I said my toes always run cold. What is nice about the Estremo's is that now my feet don't feel constricted and my socks stay dry with non of the sweat build up I get with neoprene overshoes. So first impressions were pretty good. But. After two rides I noticed that the toe area of the undersoles was starting to wear thin, with a couple of small holes appearing. I'd only walked a few short distances during the usual cafe / natural break stops. The underside of the overshoes is made of a rubberised material and it appears that this is just not hard wearing at all. I like the Castelli's enough despite this so have fashioned a repair using neoprene adhesive to glue some ripstop fabric over the toe area. Time will tell how robust the rest of the undersides will last. So, plush, warm and generally well made but the flimsy material underneath stops these getting 5 stars.

They're expensive and that did make me think twice about sheeling out for them, but after a few rides of cold feet in some old overshoes, I'd had enough and went for it. They definitely do keep feet warm and have been tested now on a few rides at zero degrees or just below. They've also been used on wet roads with lots of spray and water and have kept feet dry. They are quite a thick almost fleece lined overshoe and I think they're definitely a lower temperature overshoe, for when it's low single figures outside, I'd think once you start getting 6-8 deg range your feet might actually get too warm. Quality is very good and they seem quite robust, heel cut out is quite small, so will be interesting to see how the undersole wears given the price.
