As there was no way to try this shoe on in Germany, I had to measure my feet (Lake has a great instruction section on their website) and order them. And again, no german store had the size I needed in stock. Communication with Sigma was super fast and I was able to order. Shoes arrived in Germany only 4 days later... thanks for that! Other shoes I have/had: Specie S-Works Road 6, Giro Empire SLX When the Lakes arrived, I immediately put them into the oven and molded them to my feet. At least that‘s what I thought I‘m doing. First test on the rollers showed that, because of my „special“ feet (pronating both because of varus legs, plus some slight „leftover“ pidgeon toes on the right), they didn‘t really fit yet. It took me 2 cleat wedges on the left and 3 on the right to feel the area of the balls of my feet really having contact to the sole. Additionally, I had to put one or the other shoe in the oven again 2 or 3 times, because it‘s only on the bike while pedaling that you really notice where the hotspots are. But hey, that‘s why they‘re moldable! Now that I have them the way I need them, it just feels like I‘m wearing two sofas on my feet. They feel mega stiff and guiding because of the high-cut fiber „chassis“ compared to the Giros, which only have a stiff sole and then nothing above. Don‘t get me wrong, I like the Giros as well. But it‘s a different kind of shoe. The BOAs as super easy to dial both in and out - and to open. And actually - that‘s it. No funky features or a lot to tell. They just are top notch cycling shoes made out of hi qual material. Just be aware that compared to some other shoes (like my Specializeds or also Giros) you might need a wedge or two, because these are really „neutral“ without any varus support/angle.
Product Details
The Lake CX403 Road Cycling Shoes are at the top of their range. The lower overall volume of the CX Race last is ideal for high cadence, high pressure riding with a narrower toe box and tighter heel to prevent slipping when you're putting the power down. These shoes have several unique features: The upper utilises kangaroo leather that's incredibly light, breathable and supple, forming to your foot, that works together with carbon structural support panels for stability through the pedal stroke. The carbon fibre sole is customisable in the rear 1/4 through a heat moulding process and consists of a double layer; an incredibly rigid outer to keep power transfer high, plus a semi-flexible inner that's mouldable so your heel will be locked down and your foot stable.
The shoe closes over your foot using a double Boa system, distributing pressure evenly and allowing plenty of fine adjustment. Compatible with most road pedal three-bolt systems, the majority of riders can reap the benefits of these top-end shoes.
Lake CX403 Customisation
These shoes are available in a custom colourway and design. If you wish to customise these CX403 cycling shoes, please book an appointment in-store or contact our customer care team for full details before ordering.
Sizing note
Lake shoes run small. We recommend sizing up — most customers find they need one full size larger than their usual EU size. If you're between sizes, always go up. This applies to both the standard and wide fit versions.

Reviews
This is something different. I've owned many shoes and this pair is the best. The fit is perfect as you'd imagine after moulding. I've gone through the process three times to get my perfect fit. I've done a couple sessions on the turbo trainer between each moulding, which helped spot areas for adjustment, ending in the perfect fit. After that the sensation while cycling is that the foot is tightly connected, but without the pressure required in other shoes to get there by over tightening the boa dials. Now when I cycle with other shoes I own I can see the difference. What previously felt as a really good fit now doesn't. Only downside is weight. These are not light. But it's not a big enough drawback to drop a star.
