I kept putting off buying this as I always thought I’d be quicker going to a bike shop and getting them do swap a BB rather than me having to wait for delivery and the chance of me getting it wrong. That was about 3 bikes ago so I could have saved myself so much money by having the tool to do it myself. I finally bought the tool and swapped the BB on my new bike myself so I could fit my quarq crank to it and it couldn’t have been easier. Getting the first side out was easy but the 2nd side was slightly harder as the tool had nothing to keep it in place but still not difficult at all.

I always prefer buying the correct tool and doing my own maintenance. You can’t go wrong with Park Tools. I also bought some threaded rod and wing nuts to use to press the new bearings in square. If comes with the cups only so I wasn’t happy just tapping them in. Only cost a few pounds on eBay. Taking the old bearings out was a doddle.

Q & A

2 questions answered

  1. Will this work for removing a Shimano bb71-41? And once removed can the bottom bracket be replaced?

    Asked by MJB (London)

    1. Hello, I can confirm that this tool would work absolutely fine for removal of your bottom bracket. You would also require a bearing press to refit your bottom bracket, such as the one below. https://www.sigmasports.com/item/Park-Tool/HHP3-Bearing-Cup-Press/HVB Kind Regards Liam

  2. Hi, will this tool work for the removal of all sizes of BB bearings?

    Asked by Stevej (Warwickshire)

    1. Hi, Thanks for your question. This tool will work with BB bearings with an inside diameter of 37-41mm. This includes BB90, BB92, Shimano press fit and Sram Press Fit GXP. Hope this helps, Many thanks, Ollie.
