Shimano XC5W SPD Womens MTB Shoes

The Shimano XC5W SPD Women's MTB Shoes are engineered for performance on the trails. The lightweight construction includes a stiff sole with a low stack height, perfect to transfer your power efficiently onto the pedals. The upper is constructed from a mesh/TPU/synthetic leather composite and wraps around your foot for a secure, glove-like feel, eliminating hot-spots and keeping breathability high. BOA and Velcro closure offers plenty of adjustment to achieve a secure and comfortable fit. When the trails are unrideable, you'll appreciate the Michelin mud-shedding tread pattern outsole that increases traction over wet and dry surfaces.

Pedal cleats are available to be purchased separately.

I’ve worn these on a few rides now - they’re pretty stiff but not as stiff as the RX8 gravel shoes, so they’re fine for hike a bike sections. The rubber sole is also great off the bike. The heel and is nice and narrow so no slip there, and the toe box is one of the wider ones I’ve tried. My only problem with them is that the tongue seems to sit quite high and digs in to the front of my leg, but otherwise these are comfortable shoes. Can’t get my head around sizing with cycling shoes! I think my feet are a wide 38 in most shoes, including running shoes, but the 39 were too small in these ones so I’ve gone for the 40.

Love these shoes and they look great on however they do come quite high up on the ankle so a little uncomfortable. Hence only 4 stars. I'm hoping with more wear they will soften up and not dig into the front of my ankle.

Q & A

3 questions answered

  1. Hi, my right foot measures 24cm and my left measures 24.5cm. What show size would you recommend? I previously purchased a pair of Shimano MW5's size 40EU, but they were too big. I'm not sure if the sizing is different as they were unisex. Thank you

    Asked by Janet (Farnham, Surrey)

    1. Hi Janet, You will need to go for the eu39 shoes with your sizing, Many thanks Joe W

  2. Are these shoes wide-fitting please? I’m looking for width around 100mm in a size 41

    Asked by Kate B (Yorkshire)

    1. Hi Kate, These shoes are not renowned for being overly-wide fitting, nor are they overly narrow. If you are not 100% sure if they will fit, you can always test them inside with no cleats fitted, then send them back via our free Uk returns procedure if they aren't quite right. Many thanks, Max

  3. I have quite a wide forefoot - do you have a width estimate on these shoes?

    Asked by laural

    1. Hi laural, I'm afraid we have no width measurement on these from Shimano but they are wider than standard, Many thanks Joe W

About Shimano

Shifting the way the world rides.

From a single Osaka workshop in 1921, Shimano has grown into the world's most influential component maker. The brand's relentless engineering — Dura-Ace, Ultegra, GRX, XTR — has shaped the way the world shifts, brakes and rides, on the road and off it.

Shimano's flagship groupset, Dura-Ace, has been the benchmark for top-level road components for more than five decades. Every refinement that lands on Dura-Ace eventually shapes the entire Shimano range, all the way down to entry-level drivetrains.
