Specialized BG SL Footbed Blue Cycling Insoles

The Specialized BG SL Footbed Insoles Blue has been redesigned for lighter weight and more efficient power transfer. Ergonomically designed & scientifically tested Body Geometry footbeds were co-developed with Andy Pruitt, Director of the Boulder Center for Sports Medicine, to customize fit and measurably improve performance.

Blue footbed denotes a moderate (slightly higher longitudinal arch & metatarsal button) = for people with flat to standard arch.

Features
  • Body Geometry footbeds provide longitudinal arch & metatarsal support for a custom fit
  • By standing on the Specialized Arch-O-Meter, a rider can determine the optimum level of foot contour: Red = minimal contours for riders that prefer minimal support Blue = moderate (slightly higher longitudinal arch & metatarsal button) = for people with flat to standard arch Green = significant support = for people with standard or high arches
  • Body Geometry shim and wedges sold separately

Simon,

Most cycle shoes, even high end, come with next to nothing footbeds with zero arch support. In part because everyone is different, but I suspect it is so that the shoes feel comfy when trying on in the shop. Most after market footbeds are stupidly priced. These are bearable. They are a substantial upgrade on most standard ones. Nice extra padding under the ball of the foot without using up much extra volume, although they do steal some space right st the back of the heel cup which alters retention. All the science says the weird biomechanics of stiff cycle shoes is helped by arch support. Spec do three sizes, yiu should be able to find one which is mildly but not uncomfortably obstructive standing or cycling. I tested mine out, and it felt weird at first, and though not using a power meter I did feel a little stronger, going up known hills one gear higher with no extra effort. Also, when standing, it felt like the whole foot was involved. Well worth an experiment. Check out Steve Hogg’s writing around arch support, which is backed up by science and similar views exist elsewhere. It got a 4 because it’s a piece of glorified foam.£10 Aldi trainers come with insoles that aren’t a fat lot different in unit cost at manufacture. Same principle with most bike kit.

About Specialized

Innovate or die.

Founded in California in 1974, Specialized began with a simple promise: serious riders deserve serious gear. Half a century later, the brand still funds its own wind tunnel, builds its own carbon, and tests every bike with the world's best so that you ride your own best.

The first production mountain bike. The first cycling-specific shoes. FACT carbon, the Win Tunnel, S-Works. Specialized has a habit of building the things the rest of cycling ends up copying.
