Trek Flare RT Rear Light

The Trek Flare RT Rear Light represents 3 years of microstudies to fine-tune the rear light beam focus, flash, lumen output, orientation and even the LED colour. Flare RT’s flash pattern now features an even more powerful 90 Lumen max burst in its interruptive flash pattern to be better noticed by other users of the road - visible from over 2 km away. Connect the Flare RT to your Garmin Edge computer and the Bontrager Light Control App for battery status and control.

Be seen in daylight and in the dark with the Trek Flare RT Rear Light. Outputting a maximum of 90 lumens, the battery will last a claimed 6-hours of continuous use. This second version is lighter and smaller than its predecessor yet packs more battery life and lumens. It includes a quick connect bracket that’s offset for proper orientation on an angled seatpost.

I have been quite mean with two stars. This light is very bright and so does it's job of warning traffic very well. However, why make it so tiny with such a short battery life? This light only weighs 22g and is tiny. If it was slightly larger with a slightly larger battery a runtime of between 1 to 2 days could be achieved quite easily. A battery life of a few hours might seem good, but this is a product being sold as a daytime running light in reality a commuter might be riding an hour a day, a leisure rider might do 4 hours or more so you end up having to frequently take it off the bike for charging.

I bought this light as I had recently had some new bontrager mudguards with a mount. Unfortunately the mount broke within a few weeks and the light didn't survive the following vehicles. Light was good when it was attached though.
