The Sigma Sports Cafe Ride - Tom Pidcock

Regarded as Britain's most versatile bike rider, Tom Pidcock joins presenter and former national road champion Matt Stephens for the latest episode of the Sigma Sports Café Ride.

The 24-year-old Leeds native already has seven world cycling championship titles to his name from junior to elite level spanning multiple disciplines of Mountain Biking, Cyclocross and Time Trial. In 2022 he won the Queen stage of the Tour de France, and in 2023 he won his favourite modern classic Strade Bianche, so the pair had a lot to talk about while perusing Tom’s trophy and jersey collection.

Setting off on a drizzly morning in late November, Matt and Tom rode an easy route to a local cafe near his winter residence in Belgium. There, they discussed Tom’s goals for a jam-packed racing season in 2024, with plenty of laughs about aerodynamic vegetables and the hierarchy of biscuits along the way. Then it was on to the town of Boom to visit a cycling museum and ride a lap of the cyclocross circuit, where Tom won a World Cup race in 2022.

Matt's Bike

Far from just looking the part, Matt required a bike capable of tackling the hard Belgian roads around Tom's home in this Cafe Ride episode. Cannondale's SuperSix EVO LAB71 Road Bike was the perfect choice, balancing a dazzling paint scheme, with top-tier components, including a Shimano Dura Ace Di2 groupset and Hollowgram R-SL 50 wheels.

Matt's Kit

A typical cold and wet Belgian day greeted the duo for their ride to Boom and as such Matt had to carefully pick his kit to suit the conditions. Matt opted for Universal Colours' Volume 8 range of autumn/winter kit and combined it with a sharp pair of shades and a slick helmet, both provided by Oakley. Combining soft tones with highly capable kit to keep him both warm and dry, this ensemble was perfect for a winter spin.
