As for the new hazard reporting features, I’d say they’re okay—they do the job, but they’re not a game-changer. If I’m being honest, sometimes I wonder if the real hazard is the rider rather than anything the device might warn you about! Still, it’s a nice addition for those who want an extra layer of safety. I've been using the Garmin Edge 1040 for a while now and, overall, I’m really happy with it. The battery life is excellent, the screen is bright and easy to read in all conditions, and the range of metrics and training tools is spot on for both structured sessions and long endurance rides. GPS accuracy and route planning are solid too, which makes it a great companion for exploring new routes. The only real gripe I have is with the auto-navigation when you miss a turn — it’s not always intuitive. Sometimes the rerouting takes a few moments too long or suggests odd alternatives, and I’ve found myself having to stop to manually re-check the route more often than I’d like. If Garmin could make that process smoother and a bit more user-friendly, it would be close to perfect.
