The Park Tool Dummy Hub fits into the rear dropout and will hold the chain in place when there is no wheel present, such as when the frame is packed up in a box or bag for transportation. Fits both quick-release frames and 12mm Thru-axle frames for road or mountain bikes. Will work with Shimano, SRAM and Campagnolo.

This was one of those tools that I had always looked at and thought nice to have, but not necessary. I've changed my mind. I like the fact that when I clean and lube the chain I don't get lube on the cassette and when transporting a bike in the back of a car it keeps the chain in position - no big deal but I'm a bit fussyl like that. Works on through axles and QR, typical Park thoughtful design
