Schwalbe tyres are celebrating the 40th anniversary of their most iconic tyre by giving it a well deserved update. The Marathon has been given a modern tread design in order to conquer every challenge from urban jungle to bike touring. Over 40 years ago Schwalbe set a new standard for puncture protection and durability and thanks to their continuous research and development, the Marathon remains the benchmark for these qualities today.
The first and only tyre with recovered black carbon from recycled bicycle tyres (RCB). This is Schwalbe's first fully recyclable tyre.
The abbreviation RCB stands for recovered carbon black. It is obtained from used tyres. In the recycling process at Schwalbe's partner Pyrum Innovations, the tyres are mechanically processed (shredded) and then recycled in a thermochemical process known as pyrolysis. The carbon black acts as a filler and reinforcing agent in the rubber compound. It influences the dynamic properties of the tyre (abrasion, rolling resistance, wet grip) and is used for colouring.
Bought to replace vittoria dry 38mm that came with bike. Fitting was easier than the vittoria tyres. Both tyres are 38mm but the marathon are smaller when inflated to 70psi. This is better as now have more clearance from my mudguards. Two weeks of commuting wet and dry, the tyres cope well. Pleased with this purchase so far.
Great winter tyre. Easily mounts. Holds the damp roads well. Love the reflective sidewall.
