Hi Mary, Selle Italia size these by sit-bone width: S suits a sit-bone measurement under 120mm and L suits over 120mm. The number refers to the cut-out rather than the width, so S2 and L2 differ only in that S is the narrower shell. The surest way to get your sit-bone width is a quick measurement in a Bike Fit or bike shop, and our stores can size you up if you can get in. Many thanks
