Nuun Sigma Sports London Race Team
Sigma Sports is proud to be continuing our sponsorship of the Nuun-Sigma Sports-London Race Team for 2018. The team is based in London and competes in amateur road races, time trials, criteriums and on the track.
The team bettered their 2016 season by finishing 9th overall in the British Cycling rankings amongst the UK’s top professional and amateur teams in 2017. On the track, Tom Hargreaves defended his 2016 Masters Point Race title, whilst Rob Moore and Jamie Pine both won masters circuit race titles. Most recently, the team won the Tour of Mallorca for the second time, returning home with the green sprints jersey and the overall team prize.
The aim of the team is to demonstrate that it is possible to compete at a high level whilst maintaining full-time jobs and family lives, serving as an inspiration to ordinary cyclists to make racing both more approachable and achievable.
For 2018, the team has bolstered its line-up with four new signings, bringing a blend of young talent and experience to an already strong line-up:
Anthony Anderson: A Sigma Sports supported junior rider in 2017, Anthony steps up to the senior ranks for 2018. Anthony had a successful 2017 season, winning the Hillingdon Summer Series and competed in international junior races in Belgium. He can finish well in a sprint and will be looking to build his strength and experience to be competitive in the senior ranks.
Martin Lonie: Former Team Linda McCartney professional, Martin Lonie, joins a strong line up of master riders. Lonie competed at the 1997 Junior Road Worlds with Sir Bradley Wiggins. Now a master with multiple track titles and medals, Lonie recently returned from the Vuelta Masters Mallorca with the sprints jersey where he guested for Nuun-Sigma Sports. Although based in Scotland, Martin will make the journey south to compete in road races, criteriums and the 2018 Masters Championships.
James Moss: Former IG-Sigma Sports professional, James Moss, is returning to the road with Sigma Sports in 2018. Moss had a professional career that spanned 15 years and has experienced competition at the highest level, competing in stage races such as the Tour of Norway and the Tour of Britain. Moss will bring a wealth of experience and firepower to the team next year, and is currently living and working in London in real estate.
Dylan Thomas: Completing the 2018 new signings is local young rider, Dylan Thomas. Dylan had a number of strong performances on the road and track whilst focusing on his studies in 2017. He is a very talented track rider and had numerous top placings in Madison and Derny events. Next season will see him enter his second year as a senior rider as he looks to gain valuable experience from the team’s older members and focus on a full season of racing now that his studies are complete.
Returning rider, Robert Moore, said, “We are all competitive people and want to race at the highest level possible. The Nuun Sigma Sports London Race Team provides the support and resources we need to maximise training and racing goals around our full time jobs and family lives. The formula really works! This year I won the National Masters Circuit Race Championships and successfully defended my Vuelta Masters Mallorca title. After a bad crash in June I am very happy to have achieved what I have this year. We are all grateful for the support Sigma Sports and all the other sponsors provide.”
Team Manager Cameron Fraser added: “With our new signings, we now have a great blend of experience and youth. It is often challenging to balance work, life and racing, but with the mix of riders we have, we should be able to field strong and motivated teams to races throughout 2018. I am very excited about the prospect of bringing on young talent, who may go on to bigger things in the future. If we can impart our knowledge and experience on them, as well as many other young cyclists around the country, then we will have achieved our goal."
The team is extremely fortunate to again be supported by a number of London based and International sponsors. The team takes a modern approach to activating their sponsorships through their various social media platforms. Twitter, Facebook and Instagram all play a big part in the team’s promotion and engagement with sponsors and fans. True to their grass-roots approach to cycling and racing, the team regularly takes part in social rides from the Sigma Sports store.
“For the 2018 season Nuun-Sigma Sports riders will be wearing Castelli clothing and riding Cannondale road and track bikes, which will be adorned with Fabric bar tape and saddles and 3T finishing kit. The team will roll fast with Mavic, whilst watts will be recorded with Stages Cycling power meters. Oakley sunglasses will offer style and protection in equal measure. Nuun and Clif Bar are both on board, keeping the team hydrated and fuelled through the season. Further support is provided by Rockstar Games, Cycling Sports Group, Saddleback, TrainSharp Cycle Coaching, Chiro London, Big Yellow Self Storage, Cycle Accident Management Services (CAMS), Colonna Coffee and Pro Cycle Insurance.
