Top Five Cycling Rain Jackets

For this Season

There is nothing worse than getting drenched out on the bike. As inevitable as headwinds and lactic acid in your legs, rain is part and parcel of riding a bike, especially if you live in the northern hemisphere. One of the most important cycling garments therefore is a good rain jacket. We've taken a closer look at five of the latest cycling rain jackets for the new season.

1. ASSOS Equipe RS Jacket

2. Gore Wear C5 Gore-Tex Shakedry 1985 Jacket

3. Endura Pro Sl Waterproof Jacket

4. MAAP Apex Winter Jacket

5. Mavic Cosmic Ultimate GTX Jacket

1. ASSOS Equipe RS Rain Jacket

There will be no chance of missing the ASSOS Equipe RS Rain Jacket and we're not just referring to its lolly red appearance. For those that are looking to pop out on the road this season, ASSOS' top of the range jacket is a good choice. The successor to the ultra popular rS.sturmprinz Jacket, the Equipe RS features a new ergonomic cut and is made from a lightweight and easily packable material.

ASSOS' taped seams and DWR (Durable Water Repellency) treatment reduce the chances of water penetrating the garment, while the unique cuff construction incorporates water-repellent stretch inserts into the design, making pulling the jacket on and off a simple task.

2. Gore Wear C5 Gore-Tex Shakedry 1985 Jacket

One of the most technically advanced brands when it comes to complete wet weather protection, save weight and keep the rain off with the Gore Wear C5 Gore-Tex Shakedry 1985 Jacket. Weighing a mere 116 grams, in size large, the jacket is completely water and windproof and offers a comfortable fit. Shakedry took the cycling clothing world by storm (excuse the pun) when it was first released and continues to lay down the benchmark when it comes to protection from the elements.

Face fabric allows you to simply shake the jacket to dry, while the concealed front zip pocket further adds to the jacket's tough credentials. The reflective logo and print helps to improve visibility on the road, while adjustable collar uses Velcro to allow you to dial in the fit and create a barrier against the wind and rain.

3. Endura Pro SL Waterproof Softshell Jacket

For those looking for wet weather protection without the premium when it comes to price the Endura Pro SL Waterproof Softshell Jacket is the ideal choice. Using PrimaLoft, this technology has been chosen for its lightweight and insulating characteristics. The softshell fabric is stretchy and features a brushed inner fabric for added warmth. Water in kept out with the help of fully sealed seams. Protection is further enhanced with the addition of an internal storm flap on the full length front zip. Storing your ride essentials is made easy with the inclusion of three rear pockets, with a zipped security pocket, and a zipped chest pocket.

Should the temperature rise the zipped underarm vents are a welcome addition. Subtle black reflective detailing aids visibility, while the internal hem elastic features a silicone gripper that is designed to keep the jacket in place.

4. MAAP Apex Winter Jacket

They may hail from one of the hottest places on earth but the guys at MAAP know where it is at when it comes to producing performance focused autumn and winter garments. The best of both worlds, the Apex Winter Jacket is a pro fit piece, that is designed to keep you warm and dry, while carefully regulating your body temperature to avoid overheating. Fully waterproof and windproof, the three layer fabric is made up of a c_change membrane.

This highly technical addition varies breathability, working with your body temperature to increase ventilation by up to 50% when riding hard. In turn, it actively closes when riding easy, for example on descents.

5. Mavic Cosmic Ultimate GTX Jacket

One of the lightest, most packable jackets on the market, the Mavic Cosmic Ultimate GTX Jacket should not be underestimated when it comes to performance in wet conditions. Made from Gore Tex, Mavic have done away with an outer layer and plumped for a single layer construction. This features a DWR coating that repels water. The added benefit of this coating, combined with the Gore Tex material is the jacket tips the scales at a mere 95 grams.

Inspired by the world’s toughest races and cycling events, the pro fit reduces excess material flapping in the wind. When the sun makes a return, simply stow the jacket away in the included pouch.

Keeping the elements at bay, these five jackets are sure to provide the protection you require, even when riding through the heaviest of downpours. Our range does not stop here though, browse our entire range of cycling rain jackets and find the one that suits your budget and requirements this season.
