There aren't many options out there for those of us with boxy feet but i'm happy to have found these. For comparison sake, I also own a pair of Fiziks' own Terra X5 SPD shoes in a 42. These are comfortable, but on the limits of what my feet will fit into. My little toes always feel squashed in somehow. With these though, there's plenty of wiggle room! (Maybe even too much?) So, I would say they could benefit from a second dial or strap nearer to the front to get a snugger fit. In my case I tested 2 sizes and came away happier with the smaller 41.5 size, the extra width no doubt allowing this. The shoes themselves aren't any wider than normal around the heel area, but I like how they've used a softer fabric on the inside heel to prevent them from rubbing your cranks. It's not usually a problem for me but it's a nice touch. One final note is on the cleat hole positions, they are quite far back which may be a problem for some but as with all shoes it a personal thing. So overall they're just short of perfect, but with the limited choice available, you will be mostly happy, as I am. I've also added a pic for comparison. The left shoe is the Fizik X5 and the right shoe is the Overcurve R4 Wide as reviewed here.
Product Details
Fizik Tempo Overcurve R4 Road Cycling Shoes (Wide)
A versatile offering from Fizik, the Overcurve R4 Wide Fit Road Cycling Shoes blend an advanced design with high-quality construction to perform brilliantly on group rides, daily training sessions and challenging Gran Fondos.
The upper is realised from a polyurethane laminated mesh that donates structural support for efficient power transfer and flexibility for comfort. This upper is incrementally tightened around the foot via the single BOA Li2 dial, and this is partnered by the Overcurve closure format that closely follows the ergonomics of the foot to reduce pinch points and hot spots while riding. A higher volume fit sees more room introduced around the forefoot, ball of the foot and metatarsals to increase comfort for riders with wider feet.
A carbon-injected R4 sole is moderately stiff to balance comfort with pedalling efficiency. This outsole integrates a wide front vent that leads to an internal channelling system to keep the foot aerated and cool. A more rearwards cleat mounting point on the outsole helps the rider achieve high power outputs while decreasing the pressure within the knee.
Pedal Compatibility
These shoes are compatible with road pedal systems utilising the 3-bolt cleat system such as Shimano SPD SL, Look Keo/Blade, Time Atac etc...
Sizing note
Fizik shoes are built with a performance fit: true to size in length but with a narrow, low-volume toe box. Do not size up — it won't solve a width issue. If you have a wider or higher-volume foot, choose the Wide Fit version. If you're unsure whether Fizik suits your foot shape, check our size and fit guide before ordering.

Reviews
Comfortable shoes for long rides. Good looking and stiff enough. My feet have high arches, narrow heels and a very wide forefoot with almost non-tapering toes. A perfect fitting cycling shoe seems impossible to find, but these are close. The toe box feels roomier and more flexible compared to similar sized lake cx237 wide and shimano rp9 wide. Good heel retention, but would be nice with a second boa or a strap at the front. I would size down half a size from shimano/giro. Overall a great shoe. Competitive price and fast shipping from Sigmasports too!

Hi there, Please contact the Customer Care Team for help with this, Many thanks Joe W
Is the size guide on these at all accurate? I’ve had size 38 shoes be too small for me in other brands but fizik’s size guide puts me at a 36
Hi there, I have found this sizing chart to be pretty accurate, Many thanks Joe W
Northwave I take 44 regular to give the corner of my big toe room but now I need a wider shoe for my little toe as well. What size would you advise given my foot length is 270mm
Hi Ian, With your foot length you would need the Eu42 in this shoe, I would recommend going to the eu43 if you would like more room in the toe box, Many thanks Joe W
About Fizik
Where the rider meets the bike.
Fizik was founded in Northern Italy with the conviction that the three points of contact between rider and bike — saddle, shoes, handlebar tape — deserve the same engineering focus as the bike itself. Every product is engineered around the rider's body to make the long ride feel shorter.
Fizik's saddle range is organised around the Spine Concept — Bull, Chameleon, Snake — matching saddle shape to rider flexibility. The result is a comfort claim backed by anatomy rather than marketing.
