These are excellent MTB SPD shoes. The sole is grippy and flexible enough for off-bike use, while stiff enough for comfort on long trail rides. I use these in spring, summer and autumn. At first, I was wary of the tight opening at the ankle (there is no flexible tongue), but a shoehorn solves that problem. Once on, the shoes fit my feet perfectly, which convinced me to buy them.

Shimano EX700 Gore-Tex MTB Shoes
Shimano EX700s with the addition of a Gore-Tex waterproof membrane and a neoprene ankle construction make these MTB shoes perfect when the conditions are less so. They have an ULTREAD EX® rubber outsole and a pattern optimised for grip in challenging terrain, both when pedalling and walking, and EVA foam absorbs impact in the heel, improving comfort. A robust cap over the toes further improves protection.
The shoes are secured around the foot using tri-panel closure straps with a BOA dial, allowing plenty of micro-adjustments as and when required. With an upper constructed from recycled mesh and TPU, the shoes are both breathable and durable.

Reviews
I bought these last minute before doing Hellenic mountain race as an alternative to my stiff carbon mtb shoes as I knew there would be lots of hike a bike sections. It was a risk as I had no time to ride in them but they were ace. Really comfortable with a knitted construction, breathable yet warm enough and waterproof enough. The sole is chunky and durable and allow good ability to walk in even with a cleat. I’d happily wear these all day without discomfort. They are also a fairly wide fit which suits my hobbit like feet. Love them!

About Shimano
Shifting the way the world rides.
From a single Osaka workshop in 1921, Shimano has grown into the world's most influential component maker. The brand's relentless engineering — Dura-Ace, Ultegra, GRX, XTR — has shaped the way the world shifts, brakes and rides, on the road and off it.
Shimano's flagship groupset, Dura-Ace, has been the benchmark for top-level road components for more than five decades. Every refinement that lands on Dura-Ace eventually shapes the entire Shimano range, all the way down to entry-level drivetrains.
