At the risk of stating the obvious, you shouldn't expect there to be much (?anything) to complain about with a bike that costs this much. And there isn't. I'm not one of those people who's constantly buying a new bike and flipping it for another a few months later - when I buy a new bike it's only after a punishingly detailed period of research. I'm not saying it's healthy, it's just what I do. So, this is a fantastic gravel bike. Everything just works flawlessly and I'm a big fan of the new GRX Di2 (I've used the mechanical version on another bike). The bike is easliy light enough for me, the downtube storage is a useful bonus (and the hatch locks sturdily in place), and the wheelset is really nice and complements the tyre choice - removing the tubes and setting up tubeless was a breeze. The Future Shock is great - and this is a compliment - basically goes unnoticed whilst out riding. I live in Derbyshire, on the edge of the Peak District and ride a lot on what are technically roads, but what our American cousins would consider Gravel. Oddly, much of the off-road stuff in the same area is often smoother than the roads, but it's pretty easy to ride on trails that are mountain-bike adjacent on the Diverge. The thing you need to know about is the sizing - if you rely on the Specialized sizing guide there's a chance you'll end up a size bigger than might be ideal (this is my experience and therefore pretty subjective). I happened to know (since I have a size 56 Tarmac) that despite being 184cm/6 foot a 56 is the ideal size for me - so I went for a 56 in the Diverge. Even then, since the reach is pretty long I swapped out the stem for one 10mm shorter (because of the way the future shock fixes to the steerer this was actually simpler than with a conventional setup). Maybe the length of the GRX brake hoods exacerbates the reach a bit, but for me the stock setup on the 56 was still a bit long - hence the stem swap (and things are now perfect). Especially if you know your measurements from an existing bike or bike fit, take time to compare them with the geometry charts on Specialized's website. (Interestingly the size guide on Sigmasports.com contradicts the official Specialized guide and suggests the 56 for someone of my height). Bear in mind this is just me. You may well be different. When riding, the feel is just great. You can feel roady when you need to, but when it gets a bit chunkier the bike is nicely "chuckable" and feels nimble enough, but without being in any way unstable - in fact the longish wheelbase makes it feel pretty planted. I'm sure that the seat-post flex makes a real contribution to not feeling knackered or beaten up after a 40mile+ ride in Derbyshire's bleak midwinter, but like the Future Shock it just works unobtrusively and you're not aware of any excess flex whilst riding. Unless you're looking for an absurdly super-light race machine, the Diverge 4 is a great bike. This spec level is probably unnecessarily chichi, but it's really nice to have. I'm sure the equivalent SRAM spec is just as good, but I'm so used to maintaining Shimano equipped bikes (and am a real fan of the Hollowtech BBs and cranks) that this was my preference. It ticks a lot of boxes and I can see myself riding it a lot, for a long, long time.
