Whether an unrivalled run on a technical track, an all-new trick, or a historic win, you can be sure FOX is involved with the story. Their impact on the world of cycling is immeasurable.
Humble Beginnings
As the brainchild of mechanical engineer Bob Fox, the story of FOX humbly begins within the walls of a friend’s garage on a borrowed lathe and mill. One year after creating an initial prototype, Bob brought to market an air suspension shock designed for the rigours of professional motocross racing. Fast forward a year to 1975, and the brand's inaugural product sees its first of many National Motocross Championship wins. In the years to come, FOX shook the world of motocross with a string of non-factory team wins, kickstarting their reign as a premium player in offroad sport.
Their move into MTB performance suspension
Building on their initial success, FOX branched out. Their technologies triumphed throughout a range of offroad motorsports, and in 1991 FOX prototyped their first cycling-specific product - the ALPS-1 air-sprung damper. The early nineties saw roaring OEM sales, with Cannondale, Trek and Specialized all placing orders for their inceptive full-suspension designs.
In the years leading up to the turn of the century, suspension fork development was motionless. It became clear to FOX that a revised, high-performance option was required, and in 2001 they launched the original FOX FORX fork. An instant success, the lightweight design utilised a rigid 32mm stanchion chassis and took the market by storm. The following year saw cycling legend Brian Lopes, an athlete who was crucial in developing the fork, win the UCI Mountain Cross World Championship aboard the pioneering FOX FORX FLOAT 100 RLC.
Pushing the Envelope
The 2000s saw the launch of the key FOX product lines seen today, solidifying their position as a tour de force in mountain bike suspension. Consistently pushing the boundaries of technology and performance, their lineup led progression across all mountain biking disciplines. Their products rose to critical acclaim and shaped the careers of many of the sport's top athletes.
