This Stages Gen 3 Power L is a left-sided power meter designed to be compatible with Cannondale’s HollowGram Si (2014 or newer) and HollowGram SiSL2 cranksets. Its neat design sees a power measurement device integrated discretely onto the inside of the left crank arm that adds only 20 grams in weight. This power measurement unit doubles the torque produced by the left leg and combines this with its accelerometer-based cadence readings to give a total power value that’s accurate to within 1.5%. An Active Temperature Compensation feature keeps power readings constant through varying conditions, which is particularly valuable if training across different altitudes or within dramatically changing weather.

The data gleaned is wirelessly transported via ANT+ or Bluetooth in real-time to compatible bike computers and smartphones. This information can be downloaded after the ride and analysed with software such as TrainingPeaks, Strava and Garmin Training Centre. Battery life lasts for around 200 hours of riding, and when flat, the CR2032 battery can be easily replaced by the rider. An IPX7 water resistance rating cancels water and dirt ingress, even in the nastiest weather, while wireless firmware upgrades keep the power unit operating smoothly at all times.
