Santa Cruz Tallboy 4 C 29” R Mountain Bike 2021
Combining its cross-country heritage with downhill-inspired geometry, the Tallboy 4 C 29” R Mountain Bike from Santa Cruz offers speed and rideability on almost any terrain. By pairing a short travel frame with slack geometry and short chainstays, the bike provides stability and agility whilst the refined VPP (virtual pivot point) suspension design adds fantastic traction whether riding uphill or downhill. A lower link flip-chip provides the opportunity to experiment with a different geometry and wheelbase, with the two options offering either more stability or greater liveliness.
Both shock units are from FOX, in the form of a 130mm Rhythm 34 fork and 120mm Float Performance DPS shock, a slight increase on the previous version. The 12-speed SRAM NX drivetrain and SRAM Guide T hydraulic disc brakes marry reliability and performance, with the 180mm rotors front and rear hinting at the bike’s potential rowdiness. Maxxis’ renowned Minion DHF/DHR tyres and WTB’s ST i25 TCS 2.0 rims are ripe for tubeless conversion and there is the requisite dropper seatpost provided in the form of an SDG Tellis for greater control and manoeuvrability.
