Furthermore, the hydroformed tubes have also been aerodynamically optimised for more speed from less effort. Uniform performance across the size range is guaranteed by Specialized’s ‘Rider-First Engineered’ design which ensures that each frame is just as stiff and compliant as the rest, regardless of size. The carbon Tarmac Disc fork provides precise steering response and helps absorb fatigue-inducing chatter from poor road surfaces.

Shimano’s 11-speed 105 groupset and hydraulic brakes might sit third place in their line-up, but they offer virtually the same performance as the more expensive offerings at a fraction of the price by foregoing some of the more exotic materials used. Control and power from the brakes mean more confidence and greater cornering speeds, whilst the snappy gear changes from the 105 shifters give instant access to the right ratio for the sprint to the line. The R470 Disc wheelset from DT Swiss has a 24mm wide profile, which allows the tyres to open up and offer more comfort and cornering grip, and can be converted to tubeless if so desired.
