Specialized Recon 3.0 MTB Shoes

For riders who want to bring together the performance of the legendary Specialized S-Works Recon MTB Shoes with increased versatility, the Recon 3.0s are a great choice. Ideal for a range of off-road disciplines, be that gravel, XC or 'cross, they package up power transfer, comfort and style with low weight, and have a two-bolt sole pattern to fit most MTB pedal systems.

Innovative carbon STRIDE Toe-Flex technology has been included in the shoes, essentially allowing more natural movement in the toes. The result is more comfort off the bike through those unrideable sections when pushing or shouldering the bike is a given. Despite the extra flex, there's no compromise on on-bike performance. As with all Specialized shoes, they use a Body Geometry sole and footbed to boost power and efficiency, while keeping the entire leg aligned while pedalling for a reduced risk of injury. SlipNot™ rubber tread ensures good traction no matter how muddy the terrain and the toe studs are removable.

The upper has reduced seams, improving comfort, while perforations keep breathability high. Closed around the foot using two Boas and a Velcro toe strap, there's plenty of room for adjustment on-the-fly.

Features
  • Body Geometry sole and footbed are built with purpose and backed by science to boost power, increase efficiency, and reduce the chance of injury by optimising hip, knee, and foot alignment
  • Carbon STRIDE toe-flex technology allows for natural toe movement off-bike but remains stiff for pedalling: Stiffness Index 10.0
  • Fully-welded upper reduces seams for superior step-in comfort
  • Independent Boa® L6-Snap dials for on-the-fly micro-adjustment
  • SlipNot™ rubber tread for confident traction on all terrain with removable toe studs
  • Two-bolt cleat pattern fits all major MTB pedals
  • Manufacturer claimed weight: 355 grams (1/2 pair, Size 42)

I purchased these shoes for all-season, endurance and touring use on the road, and having owned several pairs of Specialized over the years found my regular size 44 true to size. I love the comfort (on and off the bike), the loose tongue (which makes them easy to put on, take off and dry), the fit you can get with the double Boas, and the overall look of these shoes. If I were being picky, I'd probably give them 4.5 stars, as I'd like it if the branding on the sides was more subtle, the velcro toe-end strap does little more than gather muck (like most cycling shoes), and I prefer the Boas that can be loosened, not just tightened, on the move - i.e. to loosen them you have to pop them out, then back in and start again. However, overall I'd say they're the most comfortable shoes I've ever owned and would thoroughly recommend them.

Had these for about a month now, bought for gravel and for cyclocross training but they are easily good enough as a road shoe too. Solid carbon sole, small flex by the toes for running off the bike (perfect for cross racing and running over hurdles!) and can add in spikes too. They have really great grip underfoot too, not sure how hardy this is or how long it’ll last but seems robust. The tiniest gripe is the bolts for the spikes hit the ground when walking, so the black bolts are already scratched silver and it sounds like you are tap dancing… no worse than a road shoe noisily walking around, but not something you usually get with a off road shoe. Overall, there are a really great shoe

  1. Hi I’m new to cycling and I’m thinking of purchasing these. My shoe size is 9 (UK) and I wasn’t sure if I should go for a size 43 or 44 as there is no option for 43.5 Any help would be much appreciated!

  2. Do you ship here in the philippines? And how much

    Asked by Marcus (Philippines)

    1. Hello, I am afraid that due to manufacturers restrictions, we are unable to ship Specialized products outside of the EU. Many Thanks Liam

About Specialized

Innovate or die.

Founded in California in 1974, Specialized began with a simple promise: serious riders deserve serious gear. Half a century later, the brand still funds its own wind tunnel, builds its own carbon, and tests every bike with the world's best so that you ride your own best.

The first production mountain bike. The first cycling-specific shoes. FACT carbon, the Win Tunnel, S-Works. Specialized has a habit of building the things the rest of cycling ends up copying.
