Roadmachine 01 FIVE Disc Road Bike 2022
Made with big days out on perhaps less-than-perfect roads in mind, the BMC Roadmachine 01 FIVE Disc Road Bike is ideal for hilly sportives or multi-day adventures.
The frame and fork use a high-grade carbon with a layup that combines bottom bracket stiffness for efficiency with compliance elsewhere, ensuring good long-distance comfort by isolating the rider from road vibrations. Being D-shaped, the carbon seatpost also adds to the bike’s comfort and there is even space to fit 33mm wide tyres if maximum plushness is required.
A hidden seatpost clamp and ICS2 (Integrated Cockpit Design) keep the bike looking very svelte and slick by hiding the bolts and cables away from the wind, aiding aerodynamics in the process. 35mm deep carbon rims also help the bike slip through the air without being so deep as to cause issues in blustery winds.
Both shifting and braking duties are performed admirably by Shimano’s 12-speed Ultegra Di2 groupset. Now semi-wireless, the shifters aren’t connected directly to the derailleurs but can be paired with a GPS bike computer or smartphone for more information and customisation. As befits a bike destined for all kinds of terrain, the gearing is perfect for long hills and big miles, with a 34/50 chainset and 11-34 cassette. Equally importantly, the Ultegra hydraulic brakes offer more power and control than ever, thanks to the use of Servo Wave technology borrowed from Shimano’s mountain bike brakes.
