Zone3 Buoyancy Shorts

Unlike traditional shorts, these give the most natural feeling of buoyancy around. That’s not the only comparison that can be drawn between these shorts and a Zone3 wetsuit, as the high quality smoothskin neoprene and fully stitched and glue bonded construction are also carried across.

A mixture of 3mm neoprene panels down the centre and 5mm neoprene down the sides. This addresses a number of problems as the 3mm optimises buoyancy whilst the 5mm increases hip rotation and combined this keeps your body at the optimum swim angle.

Often with beginner or intermediate level swimmers core stability and poor leg kick is a major restriction to them swimming faster, this a lot of the time is due to them not being horizontal on the surface of the water. This is where the buoyancy shorts come in, correcting the swimmer’s position in the water, reducing that ‘sinking leg feeling’ and allowing them to glide through the water more streamlined.

Generally these type of swimmer’s arm strength and technique is good but because they are not horizontal on the top of the water they create a lot of drag and ‘dead weight’ which makes it much harder to swim efficiently. 


With the buoyancy shorts the swimmer can get more used to swimming in the correct horizontal and streamlined position, so they start to build a ‘neural pattern’ dialling them into the correct position within the water. This also allows the swimmer to concentrate on making a more effective leg kick and better forward glide with each stroke without that ‘sinking leg’ feeling.

Another practical feature of these shorts is that they can be used when a wetsuit is just that bit too warm or for those training sessions in the pool, where a wetsuit is not practical.
