Years of research and development have culminated in this; the Speedplay Stainless Steel MTB Pedal System. More efficient power transfer through the cleat, improved precision of pedal/cleat connection to eliminate sloppy entrances and exits, and a micro-adjustable float that gives greater comfort and movement in the saddle.

To make the cleats easier to engage, Funnel Guides steer the cleats into the pedal’s latch mechanism and two wing-shaped guides at the front of the cleat increase the size of the target area to aim for. Additional engagement security has also been incorporated, stopping any early release or slips of the foot when putting down the power. Speedplay have done this by reversing the typical orientation of the pedal’s latch.

Ceramics have been used to replace metal-to-metal connections, which can result in less than consistent release in wet or muddy conditions. This has resulted in a reduction of seizing in wet conditions due to additional rolling in the roller-cams, plus increases the long-term durability of the cleats.
