Description

Quarq Riken 10R-130BCD Road Power meter GXP

Continuing their rapid rise since breaking into the bicycle componentry market, that Shimano and Campagnolo had held such a strangle hold on, this Quark Riken 10R-130BCD Road Power meter is another example of their fantastic craftsmanship. Directly basing it on the top end Elsa model, seen throughout the professional peloton, means this power meter is only lacking Power Balance. However, this should not be of concern as independent readings from both cranks separately is not of critical importance to most two legged cyclists! More importantly, you are getting data that is industry leading in its precision at +/- 1.5% to give purpose and structure to your training as well as key information come race day.

Construction is kept lightweight, as you would expect with SRAM, thanks to its carbon fibre cranks and aluminium spider giving you the perfect balance of strength and weight saving.

Simplicity of use has been a key component of the design process, and is something any fellow technophobe will greatly appreciate! The ability to change the widely available CR2032 battery for yourself, without tools, appeals greatly. Furthermore, its ANT+ wireless connectivity makes getting data to display on a cycle computer a breeze, especially with the LED indicator letting you know when your devices' have paired.

You are also saved the effort of attaching a separate sensor for cadence readings as the AxCad accelerometer takes care of this. With all this data at your fingertips, it is a relief that you can easily upload to Strava, Training Peaks and a variety of other data analysis platforms.

The ability to swap your power meter from one bike to another has become increasingly important as prices remain relatively high and cyclists are not wanting to limit themselves to just one stead. Quarq's OmniCal power measurement technology facilitates this as it takes accurate measurements independently from the chainrings allowing simple swaps without fear of compatibility issues or loss of accuracy with different rings.

SRAM have gone out of their way in their attempts to ensure your Quarq Riken does not let you down. Not only does the 10K dynamic temperature compensation feature protect against the need to re-calibrate it for extreme temperatures, but it has also been given a waterproof rating of IPX7 meaning it can be submerged in water up to one metre for 30 minutes, which seems a little extreme even for the British weather, but is nice for peace of mind.
